After a long career, Jim Joy is currently working for himself – Jim Joy & Assoc. Pty.

From 2011 to late 2013 Jim was with JKTech Pty, the technology transfer company for the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) at the University of Queensland.

Previous to January 2011, he was Professor and Director of the Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre (MISHC) which is also part of the SMI at the University of Queensland. Known as MISHC, the centre was established in 1998 with the support of seven Australian mining companies. Currently MISHC is active in undergraduate and postgraduate education, applied research, consulting and cross-industry projects.

Jim has developed mining risk concepts, tools and management systems models based on System Safety technology. He has also written and presented many papers, seminars and courses on risk management and human factors engineering. Jim is also the Anglo American Chair of SHE Risk Management (2007-2011) and facilitator of an international multi-company working group, the Earth Moving Equipment Safety Round Table (EMESRT). Company members are Anglo American, Barrick Gold, BHP Billiton, Newmont, Newcrest, Rio Tinto, Vale, Xstrata, Centennial and Collahausi.

He has also been a member of several other advisory committees including: BHP Billiton HSE Board Committee (2001 to 2002) BHP Billiton OHS Awards Committee (2001 to 2004, 2008)WMC Sustainability Committee (2001 to 2003) NSW GIO (Government Insurance Office) Advisory Board (2000 to 2004) WA Mining OHS Advisory Board (2001 to 2003) Xstrata Plc HSEC Board Advisory Committee (2005 to 2007)

In 2003, the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy awarded him the Health and Safety Award. In 2009, the global executive and management education programme he designed for Anglo American won a UK Chemical Engineering Institute Award. Specialties: Operational risk management and human factors engineering.


Conor is Proprietor of Outlander Executive Services working with leaders as an executive coach and as an outplacement coach with those in in career transition. He has coached and led teams all his career as an Executive GM, with a strong supply chain background.

His previous roles have been Chief Operating Officer for Glen Cameron Storage and Distribution, GM Logistics for Coles and the Group Executive at National Foods (now Lion Dairy & Drinks) responsible for Group Safety, Procurement, Shared Services, Logistics and Planning. Prior to coming to Australia in 2006 his career in the UK spanned 3rd Party Logistics and Wholesale supply chain management.

He has a passion for strong safety leadership and, having had Executive accountability for safety in the Logistics and Manufacturing sectors, he has had success in leading organisations on a journey using leadership and culture as core drivers of that success.
In 2013 he joined Global Safety Index as Sales and Distribution Director to support the co-founding Directors grow the business and is now on the Advisory Board.


Earl founded ARK Consulting Group, a leading risk management consultancy in Australia, which BRW listed in 2005 as a Top 25 Startup and among their Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies. Earl was later the Asia- Pacific MD of WSP Environment & Energy and MD of ASX-listed Greencap Ltd, which was acquired by Wesfarmers in 2013. 

Earl is currently CEO, on the Unlisted Public company Finna.

Earl is also a Director and Board member of Cricket Australia, where he is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee, Renumeration Committee and Co-Chairs NATSICAC. He is also Chairman of “On a Roll 21” and Advisory Board member of the RMIT Graduate School of Law and MBA programs.
